If you have a passion for film and television and wish to learn more about this exciting and challenging industry, this course will develop your knowledge and understanding. Your academic and practical skills will be developed.

The purpose of BTEC Higher National in Creative Media Production is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of employers in the Creative Media Production sector. The course is designed for students who wish to pursue or advance their career in Creative Media Production with a particular focus on Film and Television.

It aims to equip students with the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to undertake all stages of production across a range of media products from analysis and research to planning, production, post-production and evaluation. Alongside this, students will gain valuable information pertaining to the structure of the Creative Media Production sector and the ability to develop their skills so as to effectively pursue a career within the sector.

The BTEC Higher National qualification in Creative Media Production is aimed at students wanting to continue their education through applied learning. In addition to the knowledge, understanding and skills that underpin the study of Creative Media Production, the course will give students experience of the breadth and depth of the sector and will prepare them for further study or training.

Entry Requirements

Minimum 64 UCAS tariff points from A Levels or a Level 3 Diploma in a related subject.

Those with previous experience or learning that is relevant may be eligible via our APL process for accreditation towards this course. All applicants must complete a satisfactory interview.

The everyday costs of studying at University Centre at Wakefield College that apply to all students include:

  • Travel: costs associated with travelling to and from campus. This could be bus or train fares, costs associated with running a car including car parking charges.
  • Consumables: folders, pads, pens.
  • Printing/photocopying: most written assignments are submitted via Turnitin but there are occasions where you may be required to submit work in a printed format e.g. dissertation. There are on campus printing/photocopy facilities across college and binding and additional services in the college library.
  • Subsistence: the campus has food outlets where students can purchase meals, drinks and snacks. Water dispensers are available around the campus for students to refill reusable bottles at no cost.


The creative talent and technical knowledge you've developed during your film and television production degree will equip you with many skills beneficial for working in other sectors.
