Wakefield College and WDH launch T Level partnership

Wakefield College and WDH have teamed up to deliver a brand-new T Level in Management & Administration – enabling students to gain hands-on, valuable work experience in their chosen sector. As part of this, seven T Level students have embarked on a 45-day industry placement with WDH across a range of departments including marketing, shared ownership, finance and strategy.

As we embark on T Levels Week 2023, we are looking back on our T Level journey so far and appreciating the exciting opportunities these new qualifications have offered our students. Since we began delivering T Levels in 2020, we have embraced these new qualifications as a way to equip our students with industry skills and experience, alongside the theoretical knowledge gained from their classroom studies.

Students’ art brightens up public spaces across the District

Wakefield College students’ artwork helps to brighten up family hubs in Wakefield, as part of a project with Wakefield Families Together. This saw Level 3 Fashion Textile students create pieces of artwork for Wakefield Families Together’s Castle Family Hub, helping to enhance the space and make the families who use the hub feel welcome.

Students play casualties in local emergency services exercise

Students from the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group recently took part in a major incident exercise with local emergency services at Xscape Yorkshire, in Castleford. The scenario saw West Yorkshire fire, police and ambulance crews be deployed to a suspected chemical attack in a busy public area. This resulted in 65 casualties, played by Performing Arts and Public Service students of the Group, suffering from exposure to an unknown toxic substance.

Biffa selects Castleford College as its Apprenticeship training provider

A new academic year has begun at Castleford College with hundreds of students embarking on their next steps with us, including new apprentices Bailey and Nathan, undertaking their Level 3 Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) Apprenticeships. On hand to launch this new chapter for them were their employers, Biffa, who are keen supporters of the College’s apprenticeship offering.

Education Group scores highly in National Student Survey 2023

Results of the latest National Student Survey 2023 (NSS), commissioned by the Office for Students (OfS), have revealed that the University Centre at the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group has placed significantly higher than national average for student experience.

Wakefield College celebrates outstanding results

A Level students from Wakefield College are celebrating after the class of 2023 delivered another strong set of results, with an overall pass rate of 97.4% – the 20th year in a row the results have exceeded 95%. Meanwhile, the first cohort of T Level students delivered an amazing 100% pass rate, with 66% gaining distinction star or distinctions, whilst vocational learners were also celebrating with several students gaining three distinction stars – the highest results possible.

Students get a taste of college life

Students across North and West Yorkshire experienced the vast opportunities Further Education can offer, following a number of successful taster events held by the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group. Pupils got to encounter first-hand the Group’s wide range of A Levels, T Levels and Vocational courses, giving them the opportunity to explore the academic opportunities available to them once they’ve finished school.

DFN Project SEARCH students celebrate their success

The one-year transition to work programme came to a close for the 2022/23 cohort as interns from the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group, the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, and the ICS, celebrated their completed internship at a number of graduation ceremonies. The project, delivered in partnership with national learning disability charity Hft, works with young adults with a learning disability or autism spectrum conditions, providing real-life work experience, training in employability and independent living skills.
