A Level students from Wakefield College’s Sixth Form have demonstrated their hard work and resilience after the class of 2020 achieved another strong set of results. Figures revealed last night showed students achieved an overall pass rate of 97% - the 17th year running the result has exceeded 95%. The number of high-grade passes (A*- B) also increased significantly rising four percent to 28%.

In addition to the A level success, an impressive 12 BTEC Extended Diploma students, achieved three distinction stars – the highest results possible.

This year saw 12 A Level subjects achieve a 100% pass rate, including Business, Chemistry, Computer Science, Law, Maths and Physics. English Literature maintained its remarkable record by achieving 100% for the 15th consecutive year.

Amongst this year’s top achievers, Oliver Dixon secured a place at the University of York to study maths after gaining A (Maths), A (Further Maths), A (Computer Science) and C (History). Oliver explained: “I’m happy I’ve got the UCAS points I needed. The College has been really good and supported me throughout my time here.”

Head of A Levels, Richard Collings, said: “Our students have coped admirably with the difficult situation they have faced over the last few months and these results really do demonstrate their commitment and resilience.”

College Principal, Sam Wright, said: “I am absolutely delighted to see that our students have once again achieved excellent results. Students should be proud of how they have adapted to the unique circumstances this year and have confidence going on to further study or employment. Every one of our students is an individual and supported according to their needs. We look forward to welcoming back new and returning students in September.

“I along with all the senior team and governors, would like to congratulate all of our students and staff on their hard work and success.”
