Student AwardsWakefield College handed out ‘Student of the Year’ to students nominated for the 2017/18 academic year, in a ceremony held with the Mayor of Wakefield.
In total there were an impressive 41 awards handed out to students, who also received a cash prize for their efforts.
Student Danny Linley, who studied Engineering, won both the Student of the Year in Engineering, sponsored by Galliford Try and the prestigious Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Local Network Prize for Student Excellence. He was presented the award by Jeffrey Utley MBE.
In his nomination, lecturers praised Danny on his excellent attendance, and high standard of work.
He began his studies at Level 2 PEO and rapidly became one of the best students in his group, progressing to the L3 Diploma in Engineering and gaining a D*D* the highest grade for his course. Danny is now working towards the L3 Extended Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and he has applied to go to University. He is polite, engaged, very supportive to fellow students and an excellent ambassador for the College.
VIP’s included the Principal of the College, Sam Wright; The Right Worshipful, The Mayor of Wakefield Metropolitan District, Councillor Stuart Heptinstall; award sponsors Waystone and IET; and members of the governing body.
