Tutors learning how to use the new welding sets

Wakefield College has purchased new AC/DC High Frequency state-of-the-art TIG sets. It enables the College to become an Endpoint Assessment Centre for Welding Standards in the Apprenticeship Framework and a Welding Institute (TWI) Approved Coded Welding Centre.

Having the new sets and staff trained allows the College to bid for the Skillweld Regional semi-finals in 2019. Two of College's Level 3 Fabrication and Welding students got through to the second stage of the competition with one successfully getting into the final which is being held at NEC Birmingham on the 15th November 2018. Tyler and Brian received a Welder Coding for their vertical t-fillet welds in 10mm steel plate. The training and standards they work to at Wakefield College are well above other local training providers. They will also receive a TWI coding upon completion of their Level 3 apprenticeship.

Having the sets is highly beneficial to welding students and especially the current finalist and any future competitors. EWM provided the sets are also providing 6 new welding masks, a banner for College's welding workshop and sponsoring a trophy for a Student of the Year award for the annual Awards Ceremony in December 2018.
