Tony Rex, Director of HE Development and Clare Hagerup, Director of HE, prepare for their first customers

Staff at Wakefield College raised an impressive £215.40 for The Alzheimer’s Society through home-made cupcakes for the charity’s cupcake day.

The day was organised by Tony Rex, Director of HE Development at the University Centre, who has a personal connection with the charity, "When my wife Lindsey was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s, The Alzheimer's Society were very supportive. I’m now looking for ways to help support them and their work.”

Tony, supported by colleagues, baked home-made cupcakes and set up a stall with competitions and selfie cards provided by the charity.

It is estimated that dementia affects one in 14 people aged over 65. But it’s possible to develop the condition earlier – at least 1 in 20 people with dementia developed it under 65.
