CorporateWakefield College has been officially awarded the Carbon Trust Standard which shows real action has been taken on climate change by reducing our carbon emissions by 14.4%.
This is something Wakefield College can really celebrate. It is great recognition for our achievements in carbon reduction and demonstrates the commitment to reducing carbon emissions year on year. It is something that the college can be proud of, as it adds credibility to our good reputation.
Wakefield College has had a Carbon Management Plan (CMP) with challenging reduction targets in place since 2009. The previous target of 30% carbon reduction between 2009 and 2015 was exceeded.
The Carbon Trust Standard shows which organisations can be trusted to have genuinely acted on climate change and committed to ongoing emission reductions.
It shows that the college are taking action by reducing the carbon emissions that we are directly responsible for rather.
Some of the projects that have enabled us to get the Carbon Trust Standard include:
- Fenestration, cladding and local water heaters of Radcliffe Building
- Refurbishment of the Harrison Building
- New boilers for Gissing Building
- BREEAM Excellent for the ASIC Building
- LED Lighting Replacement Programme
The Carbon Trust Standard requires Wakefield College to further reduce carbon emissions and to have the achievement recertified every two years.
