Wakefield College students studying on the Extended Diploma in fashion and textiles presented an amazing collection of garments during a live catwalk show at the Ridings.

Fashion and Textiles students from Wakefield College showcased their final year pieces at a Summer Fashion Show at The Ridings on Thursday 15th June. Hosted by The Ridings’ resident stylist and merchandiser Tina Gill, in the centre’s new middle mall events space, the show featured summer looks from stores alongside the student pieces.

Sara Hassan, Marketing Manager of The Ridings Shopping Centre, comments: “Our new events space was the perfect setting for the show and we were all wowed by the talent and craftsmanship displayed by the students. The pieces worked well alongside looks from our stores and the day got our shoppers thinking about their summer wardrobes.”

Lecturer, Sally Poskitt said, "Wakefield College students studying on the Extended Diploma in fashion and textiles presented an amazing collection of garments during a live catwalk show at the Ridings. This was a fantastic opportunity to display the work of their final collection, based on the theme of ‘Wakefield’.

The students will also be part in a larger exhibition, taking place at the Hepworth Gallery on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th June, where all the garments will be on display. Congratulations to Georgia Brook who won the ‘best in cat walk award and to Emily Cain who was awarded a visual merchandising work experience for her creative ability."

Michelle Mutch, Curriculum Development Manager for the Arts, added, “We’re so proud of the hard work our students have put into the pieces and their course throughout the year. This show gave them the ideal opportunity to present what they have worked on, and get some real experience outside of the classroom working with businesses and the community.”
